4th of July Pancakes at Butter Valley!
-Impromptu flight to Butter Valley this AM to celebrate the 4th of July, by FLYING! Nothing says INDEPENDENCE and FREEDOM better than getting in your OWN PLANE and FLYING somewhere for breakfast!
-CAVU up there - smooth, too. Light haze, but vis 30+ easy.
-Went higher for cooler air, nice!
-Approached Butter Valley from the west - hard to see but set up a DR route to roll in on downwind and then to a nice final approach - no other traffic in the pattern, but had golfers, Frisbee golfers and motorcycle folks coming to eat!
-Nice approach - slightly high but with 40% flaps, easy to lose altitude and hit the numbers! Stopped WELL SHORT of the turf half of the runway as the photos indicate. No one behind me, so taxied back on the runway and found a piece of paved earth in the turf to chalk the plane.
-They had a 4th of July special to eat! Two gigantic flapjacks with baked apples on top with six pieces of bacon and coffee for around $7.00 or so - great deal but I could not eat it all!
-Great waitress - kept the mug FULL! (her photo shown)
-I thought it would be an eventful takeoff but it was not...big difference turning to the east vs west on departure. West has rising terrain, but to the east there is none, so from now on I will be doing that and not worrying about the climb out!
-GREAT time at Butter Valley - love that place!
-Next stop was VAN SANT! See that thread!
