Keystone Flight was again on a 'dawn patrol' hunt for good chow on the east coast...we found Butter Valley today at 0700 for an outstanding breakfast.
Ed and Robert from Pottstown met Tom O., Fred, Wayne, Tom M. and me from Carlisle, at the golf club 'Runway Grill' for an oversized breakfast feast.
Though tough to find in the valley, everyone had nice landings there! (seems like the tougher the challenge, the nicer the landings!)
The 'golfport' is a runway right ON the golf course - the runway is half paved and half turf - not side by side, but end to end, and has several large humps to contend with as well as being very narrow, about 20-25 feet or so - very challenging. (see photos)The paved part is about 1500 feet with the rest being turf, right on the course.
The golfers there must 'play around' aircraft ops, and have become very adept at doing so - rarely is an aircraft hit with a ball, and most of the time, the golf carts yield to aircraft on final or taking off - it seems to work out fine! (bring your clubs!)
Highly recommend this location, but be sure to do a very accurate weight and balance here - it has all the elements for an 'interesting' take off if you don't!
On the way back, we visited Keller Brother's airport, right on a farm - another wonderful grass airport.
Regards from Carlisle, MM
